HISTORY
Rich History of Kongu Vellar Community
KONGU VELIER were a royal house of minor dynastic kings and aristocratic chieftains in Tamilakkam in the early historic period of South India. Extolled in Sangam literature for their charity and truthfulness, they were the ancestors and head of the modern Tamil Vellalar caste.
Ponnar Shankar is a historical story (990–1020 CE)
as part of the post-Sangam history of the Tamil country. This period saw the rise and fall of many kingdoms, some of which were empires that exerted influence far and wide.
Kalingarayan
Kalingarayan, whose real name was Lingayyan, was born at Kanakapuram, a hamlet near Perundurai in the present day Erode district. When the Kongu region was under the rule of Veerapandian of the Kongu Pandya dynasty in 13th century AD, (1240 CE ) Lingayyan joined as a soldier in the army and later rose to the position of becoming a commander and minister to the Pandya king. After the king conferred him the title ‘Kalingarayan’ and provided him the power to rule the northern part of Kongu region, he de-silted several ponds and lakes and laid new roads in the region. As he constructed the 56 mile-long canal with several curves like the crawling of a snake at elevated places, an oral tradition in the Kongu region maintains that Kalingarayan constructed the canal, as directed by a snake! It was completed in 1283 CE. It continues to irrigate around 15,750 acres.

Community development is based on the economy development. Rich heritage and culture will be maintained only when we develop socially, economically and educationally.
This will be possible only by more number of people start their own business/industry along with retaining our traditional agriculture.
Most of families remain in agriculture by compulsion or by passion but they are increasing their debts every year.
By virtue of hard work and tireless efforts there are many successful organisations /institutions/industries belongs to kongu community in medium and large size industries
But the first time entrepreneurs and start ups are not able to get contacts, business informations, Marketing opportunity/supports ,access to meet experts/consultants /trainers etc due to reservation or lack of interest to educate them by the experienced business people of our community.
To mitigate this issue groups of young entrepreneurs have formed chapters named as
KONGU INTERNATIONAL TRADE AND BUSINESS ORGANISATION (KITCO)
The following Chapters were started as on date in all districts of Kongu Nadu , other states of India and over seas in the last 4 years after global KONGU BUSINESS NETWORK seminar at Malaysia and KBN Conference at tex valley in Erode in the year 2016.
